Where turtles eat and people hike

A couple of days ago, our PLOS ONE article came out on loggerhead sea turtle foraging areas in the Gulf of Mexico. I am really excited about this, as it was the culmination of tons of work by many people. We used satellite data from 59 turtles to quantify foraging areas and show where overlaps may exist with threats such as shrimp trawling and the oil spill. This paper will hopefully help with loggerhead conservation efforts in the Gulf.

Also, for the Jul-Sept 2014 issue of Bay Nature magazine, I described a nice little urban get-away for the On The Trail section. On Bay Nature’s website, I went into further detail to tell the story of hiking the trail with the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers.
